Sam Allardyce believes Steve Bruce is a much better fit at Newcastle than he’d have been, but insisted that he was»chuffed» from the club’s interest in him.
Allardyce shown back in June that he was under consideration to replace Rafael Benitez in St James’ Park but says he rejected the chance to return to the function, which he previously held between 2008 and 2007.
Steve Bruce was named as Newcastle’s new manager and Allardyce thinks the Magpies went to find the man.
«Newcastle was not for me,» Allardyce told Sky Sports. «I was quite chuffed that Mike [Ashley] believed me but I believed that Brucey had been a better fit than me and decent luck .
«It is his dream move to manage his home city club and that I wish him well. It was the only thing that came up with this summer.»
Allardyce has been since leaving Everton at the conclusion of last season and, while he is in no rush to get back into management and enjoying his job as a pundit, the England manager is open to supplies.
«You never know [if he will be back],» Allardyce added. «It didn’t happen last season that was my very first year from professional football for the first time because I was 15.
«It was a bit strange simply watching all of the matches however, I found it to be quite interesting in watching how I really feel about the sport and how I would feel about what I would do when I got back – you have loads of time to get ready if you really do need to get back in the game»
